While this was the Panzer Kannon Grenade with red band it was abbreviated sort of backwards as K.Gr rot Pz. <br /><br />The American's didn't base the 75mm M61 APHE on the German shell. It was underdevelopment at the time in 1942 and samples of the M61 were flown into Cairo and tested along side the German shells. I think the roof hatch was much quicker to get in and out. The M4 (Sherman) design was underway even as M3 production started.
