Both the German and British armies made us of dedicated artillery forward-observer tanks that typically (not always) had their main guns removed. <br /><br />US forward observer tanks kept their main gun, but, the Sherman was a roomy tank. <br /><br />Both US and Brits used armored halftracks in this role also.
