But I don't found any information about colour of tracers. If that's true that 7.62x39 mm ammo use a RED tracer, that's situation explain why many Polish people remember red colour of tracers- most popular gun in Polish Peoples Army was Kalashnikov Avtomat- gun which use 7.62x39mm ammo. BTW, US soldiers which fought in Vietnam propably saw many Chinese ammunition. Maybe in Chinese ammo green trecers was more popular that in Warsaw Pact (China don't be Warsaw Pact member).AKMShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08038804619662765120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-57806625800289308902018-10-31T08:04:34.162-04:002018-10-31T08:04:34.162-04:00I looked at many videos and could not tell. And as you pointed out even back in the days when there was a united Warsaw Pact the individual countries often had a degree of independence and even the Soviet Union had variety. I just wish someone would take some of the "Green Tracer Ammo" into a dark room and film it so we can see just how green it is. Because most of the anecdotal evidence I can find if of American's from the Vietnam war talking about on the receiving end of green tracers. And I just can't trust those people. Either way, I'm sure video games overdo the color difference to make the games more playable. In real life often the best soldiers are often confused and end up shooting their own fellow countrymen.<br />Sager ,William A.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06830369127449299646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-78144888664161171282018-10-31T00:13:09.863-04:002018-10-31T00:13:09.863-04:00William Sager, I linked discussion on Polish forum...William Sager, I linked discussion on Polish forum. Maybe machine translation can be usefull. On last post in this Polish-language discussion I added links to few videos of Soviet weapon firing, and on this videos I don't see green tracers. Generally, In my opinion, some Soviet ammo use a white/little green tracers, but propably many Soviet ammo use red tracers. http://forum.militarium.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6601AKMShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08038804619662765120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-12986308997464763302018-10-30T21:37:33.504-04:002018-10-30T21:37:33.504-04:00AKMS Sounds like a fantastic question for Ian McCo...AKMS Sounds like a fantastic question for Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons fame. I doubt few people on Earth have fired a greater variety of firearms. I did read somewhere that the color comes from our choice of Strontium salts as a oxidizer and the Soviet/Chinese use of Barium salts.Sager ,William A.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06830369127449299646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-57859722252262593382018-10-28T21:58:44.097-04:002018-10-28T21:58:44.097-04:00I think that this is a not bad place for writing m...I think that this is a not bad place for writing my opinion about... tracer ammo. On many western internet forums I see generalisation that during cold war West use red tracers, and East green tracers. And also in video games which I remeber (old video games, like Armored Fist 2) Soviets use green tracers. Thats interesting for me, because I live in Poland, and in Poland we have many Soviet-designed guns and users of this guns. And practically every people which I know, which serv in Polish army (also in Polish Peoples Republic era), remember RED colour of tracers, not green. On one of Polish internet forums about military I ask about tracer colours and I get answer from one famous user (this user have extremly big knowledge and write articles about guns on Polish military magazines). In this answer I found opinion that 7.62x39mm ammo (T-45 variant) use a red tracer. And I found opinion that some tracer variants of 7.62x54R mm ammo use white tracer (T-30, BT,BZT), and other tracer variants of this ammo use red tracer (T-46, BT-90). White tracers can be propably seen as "little green" in some situations, but from other hand, In my opinion, generalisation "Warsaw Pact = Green tracers", it's not true. Maybe western people think that Soviets use green tracers because Soviet tracer ammo have a green tip. But in Soviet Union green tip mean "tracer ammo", not "green tracer ammo".AKMShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08038804619662765120noreply@blogger.com
