In fact when a Churchill took out Tiger 131 it was on a hill the Germans thought was impassable to tanks.
Sidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07311962430869971718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-30886658484163426622017-04-29T11:38:40.893-04:002017-04-29T11:38:40.893-04:00Most likely it would be the Mk.III which is labell...Most likely it would be the Mk.III which is labelled in the accompanying picture. The initial ones sent were Mk.I and Mk.II, about 20-30 iirc.

You have to be careful in the nomenclature used in these tests because the Churchill was the "Mk.IV Infantry Tank". So a Churchill Mk.IV was officially "Infantry Tank Mk.IV Churchill Mk.IV".

Equally the Mk.I Churchill would be "Infantry Tank Mk.IV Churchill Mk.I".

The Soviets used the generic term "Mk.IV" for ALL marks of Churchill, so it is often unclear what they are actually testing.Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-81592741871594866972014-01-13T21:25:18.243-05:002014-01-13T21:25:18.243-05:00Unfortunately for you the Churchills furnished to ...Unfortunately for you the Churchills furnished to the Soviets were Mk IIIs and IVs and not Is and IIs.Edhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02020344235646665237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-65370070131999951332013-06-25T05:10:54.597-04:002013-06-25T05:10:54.597-04:00only the first MkIs and IIs were unreliable. These bugs were eliminated by 1942 when the 'rework scheme' brought in improvements for all tanks being produced and recalled all existing vehicles in batches to implement the parts necessary to remedy the issues

Thereafter it became very reliable indeed, in fact one of the most reliable designs of the war

The idea they were 'real crap' is a myth widely pedaled on the internet by those that have not really studied them in any depth. They were not the best tanks in teh world, but there is a really big range of quality betwee 'crap' and the best. Certainly they were more than a match for PzIII, IV and stugs which were by far the most numerous German tanks seen in action

The tank tested in this report is highly unlikely to be the tank pictured. By war's end they performed much better than the early disasters, but they were definitely a dead end in tank development as the British shifted to the more versatile, more reliable cruiser designs like the Cromwell, Comet, and Centurion.rossmumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15145748774081415499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5030145265861917845.post-91265767864686832212013-05-09T17:16:27.400-04:002013-05-09T17:16:27.400-04:00Love to read what other nations thought of other n...Love to read what other nations thought of other nations tanks.
