70 Years of Victory

70 years ago, on May 8th (although it was already May 9th by Moscow time), the war against Germany finally came to an end.

"On May 8th, 1945, in Berlin, representatives of the German supreme command signed an act of unconditional surrender of the German armed forces.

The Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people against German-fascist invaders has been successfully completed, Germany is completely defeated.

Comrades Red Armymen, Red Seamen, Aergeants, NCOs, officers of the Army and Navy, Generals and Marshalls, I congratulate you on a victorious conclusion to the Great Patriotic War.

To celebrate the complete victory over Germany, today, on May 9th, the Day of Victory, at 22:00, Moscow, the capital of our Motherland, salutes the glorious forces of the Red Army, ships, and units of the Navy that achieved this glorious victory: 30 artillery volleys from one thousand guns.

Eternal glory to the heroes that fell for freedom and independence of our Motherland!

On the declaration of May 9th as the Holiday of Victory

In order to celebrate the victorious conclusion of the Soviet people against the Germano-fascist invaders in the Great Patriotic War and historical victories of the Red Army, leading to the complete defeat of Hitler's Germany, which surrendered unconditionally, it is established that May 9th will be a day of celebration for all peoples: Victory Day.

Consider May 9th a work holiday.
